As jobs get tighter everyone, especially students, have to determine if their skills will earn them good income in a job that they can enjoy. The NKBA Accredited Programs help faculty at 2yr and 4yr colleges design a curriculum that will prepare students for a career in Kitchen and Bath Design. Upon completion of these programs students will have learned to draft, design, present ideas, sell, and many other market specific skills that allow them to sit for the AKBD exam and pursue jobs and certification thru NKBA.
Phoenix College of the Maricopa Community College District has achieved the status of a Supported program which means they have a NKBA approved curriculum in place and over the next few years will engage in site surveys and student project evaluations to see that they meet the NKBA requirements to become accredited.
Several of our member companies have worked with these students to fulfill the internship requirements. Since the students are from all over the valley, we can always use companies that are interested in mentoring students. The students learn by “shadowing” and assisting designers, installers, CAD projects and more. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, for an intern please call Ken Roberts at Phoenix College, 602-285-7289 or Josie Jewart, CKD, VP Academic Relations 480-759-0959. You and/or your company can get listed on the national NKBA Intern Registration site.
If you are a faculty member at a school that would be interested in becoming an Accredited NKBA school, give Josie a call for more details.
Have a successful 2010!
